Rizman St Michael

The name Mihovil/Mihael has been appearing in our family for many generations. In honour of this name, the first structure that was built on our estate was the chapel of St. Michael (Sv.Mihovil/Mihael), the patron saint of our family and estate.
The label bearing the name of St.Michael represents a natural sequence of events.

The idea behind this label was to make a wine only at its best age, exclusively from one variety from one part (plot) of our vineyards of our choice. By instilling it with the finest fruits of our labour in the vineyard and cellar – the best-quality grapes in a select harvest – our wish is to create a label worthy of the title of family collection.

The series is limited edition, and every bottle is numbered separately and as such represents an object of value to any wine lover. Our selection, our family collection, single variety from a single vineyard. Cheers!

TASTING NOTES:
This wine originates from a vineyard that descends almost all the way to the sea. Aromas include attractive notes of blackberries, cherries, plums and sweet spices. This vintage of Tribidrag 2018 gives a robust and powerful wine, albeit well balanced and harmonious, capable of combining its vigour and strength with elegance.

About the Producer
The winegrowing tradition of the Štimac family dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. The first vineyards were planted by the great grandfather of the current generation of the Štimac family, Mihovil Mijo Popich, known by his nickname Rizman.

Rizman was born in 1885 and lived a full and long life. He lived to be 96 years old. He lived in a family house in Opuzen in the valley of the Neretva river, which is where the vineyards were located. When the vineyards were devastated by vine disease (peronospora), Rizman was forced to emigrate to America, as were most residents of South Dalmatia.

He returned to Opuzen in 1918 and continued planting new vines. In his vineyard, Rizman cultivated eight thousand vines. Working in the vineyard was hard, and it took a lot of effort for Rizman to transport the grapes with a hull to a tavern in Opuzen to be processed. There he made wine by himself and sold it, with the help of our father and grandpa Vlade.
