Product Description
Product Description
A single-vineyard Plavac Mali from Tihobraće polje, a karst field on the island of Vis that sits between 10 and 60 metres above the sea. Vislander's wines from this site are its most concentrated and darkest in flavour, higher in tannin and built to age.
The Vislander story starts in 1944, when food was scarce on Vis and the island hid an Allied air base. Nona Franka and dida Jure traded their Plavac with British soldiers for tinned meat, cocoa and biscuits. Today the winery in Milna farms five sites on the island without mineral fertilisers or synthetic pesticides, ferments with indigenous yeasts, and ages this wine twelve to eighteen months in Slavonian and French barriques, holding it at least three years before release.
Dark ruby with a purplish brown sheen, it smells of blackcurrant, dried plum and Mediterranean herbs. The structure is strong, the tannins pronounced, with a light smoky spice on the finish. Falstaff has rated it 92 points.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with grilled lamb, octopus under the bell or aged island cheese.
