Product Description
Product Description
Prošek is Dalmatia's original dessert wine, made from grapes dried until their sugar concentrates, and Andro Tomić is acknowledged as its leading maker. His Hektorović, named after the Hvar poet and nobleman Petar Hektorović, blends Bogdanuša, Maraština, Prč and Muškat picked ripe and dried on straw for up to a month. It comes in the half-litre bottle the rules allow, closed with a cork tied down with twine.
Tomić was born on Hvar and spent some twenty years studying and working in France before coming home to Jelsa, where his cellar sits in the family's Mina bay. He founded Bastijana in 1997, carries on a 150-year family tradition, and when the EU questioned the Prošek name because of Prosecco, he went to the European Parliament to explain the difference.
A golden, dense and concentrated dessert wine, with the dried-fruit sweetness that comes from the straw drying.
Serve in small glasses with dried figs, almond cake or rozata, the Dubrovnik custard. It is a fine gift to bring back from Dalmatia.
