Product Description
Žlahtina grows almost nowhere but the Vrbnik field on the island of Krk, and its name comes from an old local word meaning noble. Šipun makes it light, dry and fresh, at 11.5 percent alcohol, the kind of wine the islanders call a summer evening wine.
Ivica Dobrinčić, an agronomist and nurseryman from Vrbnik, is known for bringing nearly extinct island grapes back to life. Šipun, an old word for the wild rose, is also the name of his neighbourhood in Vrbnik. The vines stand in the Vrbnik field at about 90 metres, and the bura wind keeps the grapes clean.
Straw yellow, with delicate scents of green apple, pear, lemon and white flowers. It is elegant and fresh, with a pleasant saline note that comes with the sea air. It has won silver at Decanter and gold at Sabatina.
Chill it to 10 to 12 degrees and open it with grilled fish, shellfish, light salads, white meat or fresh cheese.
