Porat Antenal is Mladen Rožanić's first fortified wine: Cabernet Sauvignon fortified with the estate's own wine distillate and long aged in old barriques, in the manner of Madeira. It is a limited edition.

Antenal is the bay at the mouth of the river Mirna, below Motovun, where in Roman times barges carried oil and wine down to trading ships, with up to fifty boats under different flags at rest in the port. The wine honours those sailors and merchants. Roxanich was founded in 2005 by Rožanić, a mechanical engineer with Istrian roots, on 26 hectares of red Istrian soil near Motovun, farmed without synthetic chemicals and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats.

Expect the dried fruit, nut and caramel tones that long barrel age gives a fortified red, with the sweetness held in check by acidity.

Serve slightly cool in small glasses with hard cheeses, dried figs or a dessert of almonds and honey. The bottle is closed with a cork stopper, so it keeps for weeks once open.

Roxanich was founded in 2005 by Mladen Rožanić, a mechanical engineer and entrepreneur with Istrian roots, on 26 hectares of red Istrian soil below Motovun. The wines ferment with indigenous yeasts in large open vats, macerate for weeks, and are bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphites; some reds age ten years or more. The winery sits beneath a design hotel on the hillside overlooking the Mirna valley.
