Product Description
Pošip is Dalmatia's great white grape, and this one comes from Hvar Hills, whose vineyards sit on the south-facing slopes of the island around Poljica. Part of the wine rests on its fine lees for two months, which gives it a rounder texture.
Hvar Hills was founded in 1991 and farms thirty hectares of a 242 hectare estate, all by hand, with traditional bush vines that get their sun from the sky, the rocks and the sea. The winery makes whites from Pošip and the island's own Bogdanuša, and reds from Plavac Mali.
Golden yellow in the glass, it smells of peach and lime, then banana, orange peel and a little cinnamon. The palate is smooth but fresh, with a touch of salt, fennel and earth, and a long finish. It has won bronze at the Decanter World Wine Awards and platinum at the Balkans International Wine Competition.
Serve at 12 to 14 degrees with grilled fish, octopus, shellfish or veal cooked under the bell.
