Vilin Ples, the fairies' dance, was Konavle's first cuvée: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Plavac Mali, the local grape alongside the two Bordeaux varieties, from the Crvik vineyards near Komaji on the hills between the Konavle field and the sea.

The Crvik family is recorded in Konavle from 1500 and has made wine since 1897, when great-grandfather Andro built the first cellar. The modern winery dates from 1993, built by Andro Crvik, and his son Petar, an agronomist trained in Zagreb, is the fourth generation. Vilin Ples has won gold at Decanter and been noted by Wine Enthusiast.

Medium ruby, with dark plum and cherry jam on the nose, opulent berry fruit on the palate and a savoury, smoky, herbal finish. The body is strong and the tannins light, with a softness that comes from the Plavac.

Serve at 17 to 18 degrees with pašticada, roast lamb or a hard sheep's cheese from the islands.
