Product Description
Product Description
R6 is Alen Bibić's cuvée of three local red grapes from the Skradin vineyards, Babić, Plavina and Lasina, grown together and fermented together. Lasina is a finicky, low-yielding variety that was nearly lost, and Bibić is one of the winemakers bringing it back.
The Bibić family has lived in this corner of Dalmatia for over 500 years. Grandfather Peter planted vineyards and sold wine in bulk for nearly forty years because private bottling was forbidden. Alen took over at 22 and now makes wine in Plastovo, a village in the coastal foothills above Skradin near the Krka National Park, where his wife Vesna runs the restaurant.
Ruby with garnet reflections, it smells of dark cooked fruit, spice and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, lively and harmonious, with plenty of fresh acidity. The New York Times once put it on a list of the best wines under twenty dollars and called it deliciously spicy.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with grilled red meat, prosciutto or lamb cooked under the bell.
