Chardonnay Sur Lie Korak
Chardonnay Sur Lie Korak Surlie is an elegant, Burgundy-style wine with a silky texture and delicate toasted notes. The vines were planted on Laškovec soil in 1990. on the southwestern slopes of Plešivica at 350 meters above sea level. All grapes are handharvested for maximum care.
Spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place in 225l French oak barrels on natural lees. Matured for 12 months on primary lees in barrique barrels by stirring and raising settled lees back into wine every 15 days (bâtonnage), after which it was transferred to 3000 l, 100 years old Croatian oak barrels where it has matured for another 12 months (1 year).
Chardonnay Sur Lie Korak is rich and full-bodied oaked style wine. Smoky scents dominated by delicate hazelnuts, pistachios without masking floral, ripe melons and fig fruit aromas as well as bready and buttery notes. The ripe apple and melon flavors are enriched by the oak ’s nutty aromas. Resting the wine on its lees adds a savory depth and a creamy texture. This is as good as oaked Chardonnay comes and would age gracefully for 10 to 20 years at least.

Nose: Complex, dominated by delicate hazelnuts and pistachios, followed by a variety of fruit and varietal aromas from ripe melons and figs, through buttery to smoky notes.
Palate: Very rich, slightly spicy, perfectly balanced acid and long lasting finish.
 

Korak winery is one of the best appraised and known Croatian wineries from the continental part of Croatia. They have been producing wines for few generations now, on the hills of Plešivica. Their vineyards are located on the S, SE and SW sides of the best locations on Plešivica, on 350-400 meters above the sea, each having it’s own microclimate. They grow riesling, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot gris, syrah, pinot noir and portugiser. Korak’s wines are not a product of modern technology, but a craft that combines nature, tradition and new knowledge. They strive to produce premium wines that satisfy most demanding clients.<br><br>Plešivica is a hilly region 30 km from Zagreb. The region is best known for high quality still and sparkling wines made of grape varieties suitable for cooler, wetter regions such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Noir. Along its wine road, inhabited with just over 300 people, there are 40 wineries.
